Srishti Musical is a company from Calcutta,
India specializing only in professional Indian instruments, sitars in particular.
Srishti is Sanskrit for "Creation".... For some
time now Calcutta has been the center of modern Indian Classical music and
instruments. Many notable makers have come from here such as Hiren Roy,
Hemen Sen, Kanai Lal (now closed), and other relative newcomers such as
Mangla Prasad Sharma and others.....
One thing that many of the makers in
Calcutta have in common is that some of the very talented craftsmen are
hired as needed and have worked in several shops. If there is not enough
work with one maker then they will go to another. With this in mind, some
highly capable friends in India fully dedicated to the music, operate Srishti with the goal of
producing the finest quality professional instruments, both in sound and
beauty. And they have suceeded!! But don't be fooled, these are not mass
produced! At present time for example, it can take 2 to 3 months to get 1 teak
sitar or fancy Jaipur style sitar made! You can expect many good things both
now and in the future from Srishti Musical!
All work is carefully monitored during every phase of
construction by
Indrajit Banerjee
who also oversees all adjustments and jawari. Then, they are air
shipped to us in the USA. A full day is spent on jawari alone!! Here in our shop each instrument is played for
several hours and fine tuned also to double check that everything is just
right. We invite you look at the instruments from
Srishti here on our site and listen to the sound clips and see for
yourself!
