Mangla Prasad Sharma is a leading maker from Calcutta, India. He makes all levels of sitar, we have chosen to carry his very best models with unique design and all construction and jawari has been monitored and done in conjunction with our partner in Calcutta. A very fine instrument!  Please note that designs will vary on the carvings, inlays on the sitar and upper gourd as this is a hand made instrument and each one is unique.

The Mangla Prasad Sharma teak concert model sitar is made of the finest available teak wood and carved with a unique lotus design on the tabli. With a tabli width approaching 14 inches and a deep gourd, it has a rich tone combined with the clarity and brightness of a teak sitar. Listen to a sound sample here!

The jawari is open and professionally done with 2 slots for the MA (1st) string and optional extra slot for the SA (2nd) at your request. The string layout is Ravi Shankar Kharaj Pancham style. All frets finely tuned and fitted in India and double checked at our shop before shipping!  Meend (bending) of 5 to 6 notes is easily accomplished.

A quality fiberglass case comes standard with our sitars from Mangla Prasad Sharma. Colors will vary on in stock sitars. MPS sitars comes with a accessory set of spare generic strings, 3 mizrabs, fret thread and a tarab string hook.

All Mangla Prasad Sharma sitars are monitored during the entire building process and fine-tuned by expert musicians in India before being air-shipped to our shop. Once at our shop they are played by us for an additional several hours before being offered for sale.  Please email or call with any questions!
